Mapping the Color Wheel to the Circle of Fifths!

After years of failed attempts, I finally found a way to map the color wheel to the circle of fifths that I’m happy with.

The Color Tree already showed us that the right side of the Circle of Fifths produces bright sounds and the left side produces dark sounds. Warm colors map to bright, cool colors map to dark - and red-purple as the root.

The results are now live in the Color Encyclopedia app! 351 entries in total, with each entry having as many modes as it does notes.

Hexatonic run in all 12 keys

This run is built from the hexatonic scale 1 2 b3 4 5 b7, which can be thought of as minor pentatonic with a 2, or Dorian without a 6, or Aeolian without a b6. It’s notated [-3 +2] on The Color Tree.
