Gene taught several of his colleagues to dance - Frank Sinatra, Kay Kendall and, shown here in a candid photo from the production of Hello, Dolly!, Mr. Walter Matthau. Gene said his experience teaching children stood him “in good stead” when he “had to do numbers with non-dancers on Broadway and in films.” As he explained, “I could break the body down into weight right and weight left and teach them as if they were young children.”
