They co-opted the term “working class” until it basically means anybody who isn’t Jeff Bezos.
And that matters because it completely skews the conversation.
Now you’ve got people with trust funds, six-figure jobs, family safety nets, property, elite degrees, and real access claiming the same “working class” identity as people trying to survive rent, food, bills, childcare, medical debt, and no backup plan.
Everybody who works is not in the same class position.
When we pretend they are, the people closest to the bottom get erased. Their issues get watered down. Their pain gets turned into branding. And the folks with the most comfort and access end up speaking over the people who actually need power, protection, and resources the most.
“Working class” can’t just mean “not a billionaire.”
Because there’s a big difference between being exploited by the system and being uncomfortable inside a system that still protects you.
