celebrates TEN YEARS of PATRON-FUNDED ART, MUSIC & COMMUNITY

To say that Amanda Palmer changed my life is an understatement. There’s so much to say, but for now, I’ll say this -
My time working with and for Amanda has taken many twists and turns since 2009, and each step of the way helped me carve my path in getting to do work that I deeply care about, for all the right reasons. As a teenager, the music that I loved, and the fan communities built around those bands were integral to my survival. As an adult, being part of of the magic, to witness the music and art I helped Amanda release touch people’s lives in the very moments they needed it most, is something I don’t really have words to describe. And through this work, on the artist side, I learned I had a passion to help shape how the tools are built and used to bring music communities together online. I feel incredibly grateful for the grace and space Amanda has offered me over the years to expand my wings and my creativity, in particular, with my photography. What a privilege to have her and her concerts as a creative playground for me to learn as ago, the opportunities and adventures to take out my camera and learn what my own artistic voice is, and to have it amplified and shared, documenting moments of great significance, and moments of the mundane.
It was a joy to capture this afternoon of performances. It was even more special to witness Amanda watching her friends from the side of the stage with such deep love, admiration, and pride as they shared their gifts on stage. I am filled with so much gratitude - for the opportunity to capture these moments, to witness incredible songwriting, to be in the orbit and play a part - albeit a different part than I used to play - in helping make things go. There’s so much to say, but for now, I hope my photography says enough.

I’ve had the joy to witness Miya perform live countless times, starting with her CMJ performance at the now closed CakeShop in 2013 where I still have the home made CD I purchased from her afterwards. The last time I caught her live was in 2019c where I saw her play at SXSW 2019 a few times before catching her first ever NYC headlining show which happened to be at Elsewhere.
Her IG livestreams during the pandemic kept me connected to the spontaneity of music when we couldn’t see it live. Her evolving sound, songwriting and collaborations have kept us all on our toes. What an experience it is to see her push and pull to the edges as she shares more and more of herself in her music and takes us for the ride right along with her.
