I used to think smaller paintings were faster to make but it’s not true for me. This 13 x 19 inch painting, “Study for Invocation”, took longer to complete than the much bigger full sized version.
For me at least, there are a similar number of decisions that go into whatever size canvas I’m working on. Here the smaller canvas was used to help make decisions for the larger one. This is especially helpful when there is gold leaf involved- some path-finding makes using that material easier.
“Study for Invocation” is part of a second installation of “The School of Goodness and Beauty” at .art - a show about a different type of pathfinding- the kind that a really good teacher makes available.
