I saw Rabble Rousers about 3 years ago & it was truly life changing for me & since then I’ve been working on a way to try to bring it to my community so we can all watch it together. It’s the incredible story of the 50 year fight for Cooper Square. When Robert Moses wanted to build right through their community the residents of Cooper Square said NO! And fought back! They fought like hell & WON! That fight birthed the Cooper Square Community Land Trust, the oldest CLT in NYC still in operation. They own & steward the land under 23 buildings in the Lower East Side in perpetuity. Their success was possible through decades of political organizing & support from the local government .
I’m so excited to be able to screen this for yall & want to thank , the Columbia St Waterfront Association (CSWA) & of course for graciously hosting. I really hope to everyone there!

Are you eager for a new model of community
development that prioritizes people over profit? Do you believe that neighbors coming together to make decisions should be the blueprint for shaping our communities?
Another way is possible, and proven with successful examples across New York City. Join us and our partners, the New Economy Project, for a timely presentation and discussion to learn about Community Controlled Housing. We will screen the critically acclaimed documentary Rabble Rousers, followed by a panel discussion on how we can implement these new models in our community.

Youth Against Displacement’s & anti-placement rally on April 7th. These young adults are amazing & have created a broad coalition that includes saving public housing StopFECDemolition & Save Section 9, no casinos, no mega jail in Chinatown & other causes, I love it! I often remind people, these causes are all related & part a of greater struggle for social justice & a more equitable New York (& the world in general) for all! To see housing, labor, etc all together was amazing! If we all get together there’s no stopping us! So I love that these kids are paving the way for us & working towards a future we all want to see. Revolutions are created by the youth, & that’s what we will need a REVOLUTION OF LOVE led by the energy & enthusiasm of the youth. Beautiful to have been there yesterday to see it in action! ❤️✊💪
