Here are some tips to help manage sleep before you sleep train

1. Set up a sleep-inducing sleep environment
⭐ dark environment
⭐ white noise on continuously
⭐ 68-72 degrees

2. Give baby opportunity to practice independent sleep
⭐ Even if you're used to holding or rocking baby to sleep. Give baby to the opportunity to fall asleep independently
⭐ Use first nap to practice since that's the easiest nap to catch

3. Follow eat play sleep, observe wake windows and sleepy cues
⭐ Eat, play, sleep - baby eats, then plays, then sleeps
⭐ use wake windows as guidelines and watch sleepy cues. We don't want an overtired baby

4. Accept help and take care of yourself
⭐ This is most important! If you need help, ask for it
⭐ Take care of yourself because you need energy to take care of your baby!

⭐ A baby's natural sleep cycle is 30-45 mins, meaning when they fall asleep, they will naturally wake by the 45 min mark. This is why a lot of parents experience short naps of 30-45 mins.

⭐ For long naps to be restorative, they need to be at least 1 hour long, which means baby needs to be able to fall back asleep after sleeping 1 cycle. This is a key skill that can be learned.

This is a question I get a lot... what is a "normal" amount of time kids take to fall asleep at night? 15 mins? 30 mins? 45 mins?

This isn't such an easy question to answer because it all depends on your child:
✅ What is "normal" for your child?
⭐ Every kid is different and while it's nice to know what other kids are doing, it's important to also know what's normal for your child
⭐ Some kids need longer to unwind after a long day
⭐ Some kids fall asleep as soon as their head hits the mattress

✅ Is your child going through a developmental leap, regression, major changes in life?
⭐ Development, regressions or changes in your LO's life (starting a new school, moving, new sibling) could temporarily disrupt your child's sleep

✅ Did your child have an extraordinary day?
⭐ After a day that is out of the ordinary, your child might need a bit longer to decompress
