This week in the library as part of Autism Awareness Month we are reading books about neurodiversity. It’s been great.
I do want to share that in a few classes I have shared that I was diagnosed with ADHD recently. When the kids ask what that means I explain it hat it is different for everyone but I am always going to have a hard time remembering where I put things and losing things that I put in “safe” places but I am really good at other things because of it. However if your kids come home and say Mrs Monty has a disease where she forgets things- it’s not Alzheimers. I know stuff gets lost in translations sometimes. lol
Here is what we are reading-
K - Just Ask. Covers all sorts of disabilities and that you can politely ask people how to help or what they need.
1- My whirling, twirling motor- it’s about ADHD as it typically appears in boys.
2- Aaron Slater, Illustrator- about Dyslexia and someone who reading does not come naturally.
3- A Walk in the Words- it covers Dyslexia and slow reading
4 - The girl who thought in pictures- a biography of Temple Grandin who has autism and does amazing work with animals
5 - Thank you, Mr Falker- the protagonist had problems with reading and math. This is a true story of author Patricia Polacco.
