Keith Haney Racing
06/01/2026
Summit Racing Keith Haney Racing endured a hard-fought weekend at the Shakedown at M'Town, the second stop on the Mid-West Drag Racing Series schedule.
Haney and the crew worked tirelessly throughout the weekend, battling both transmission issues and engine damage that ultimately put them behind the eight ball.
During the opening qualifying session, Haney posted a conservative but solid 3.708-second pass to ensure the team got down the track and established a baseline to build from for the remainder of the event.
The team came out swinging in the second qualifying session on Friday, laying down a strong 3.697 at more than 205 mph. Despite the improvement, Haney found himself just outside the qualified field.
Crew chief Brandon Switzer and the team decided it was time to turn up the performance. In the third qualifying session, everything looked promising until disaster struck. Haney suffered a massive nitrous backfire, forcing him to abort the run and sending the team into a long night of repairs as they worked to get the engine ready for one final qualifying attempt on Saturday morning.
While the team could have swapped motors, they elected not to due to not knowing the issue at hand. The motor will go back to Pat Musi for further diagnosis to find the issue.
With a historic 3.625-second bump spot on the line, Haney and the team made another clean pass, but it wasn't enough to secure a position in the main field. Instead, the team elected to compete in the Slammers category to collect valuable points toward the 2026 championship chase.
In the opening round of Slammers competition, Haney matched up against Don Walsh. The pair put on a wire-to-wire drag race, but Haney came up just short on the wrong side of the win light, ending the team's weekend earlier than hoped.
Despite the challenges, the team showed resilience all weekend and will regroup before returning to action at the end of July.
The next stop on the Midwest Drag Racing Series schedule takes place at US 131 Motorsports Park at the end of July, where Haney and company will look to bounce back.
Saturday afternoon update...we missed the field, but have our Black Widow happy again after last night's explosion.
Our run from Q1 last night...a solid A-B run, but we are on the outside looking in. We will fix that tonight 💪🏻
