Within two days this week, Falmouth Fire/Rescue and Holyoke Fire Department both responded to house fires that started with the lithium-ion batteries from e-bikes. The lithium-ion battery in this RC car erupted in flames in the owner's home not long ago, and he generously donated the remains to us for educational purposes. By his account, it took three fire extinguishers to fully put out the flames and reignited after initial suppression. Fortunately, the fire didn't spread. Damaged, defective, and recalled batteries can be a serious fire hazard, and the bigger the battery the bigger the danger.
