EL PREZ (PISTOL) As is the case with many drills we train on the range there may not be a direct application in combat. But we know this and understand the component parts add overall value and increase the skill on the individual. By turning 180 to the target we can improve our overall effectiveness, as reality won’t always be genourous enough to present threats in our direct line of sight. By connecting the dots between lower and upper body movement it only serves to add value when in dynamic situations. Leading with our eyes and head is critical. First and foremost it allows our brain to be engaged early, in the PID process. Not essential on a flat range with paper targets but absolutely critical in the real world. By testing and adjusting with different methods we can find what works for us as Individuals. Accurate shots executed quickly and efficiently is the objective. Typically, but not exclusively we work left to right, it’s the way we read and flows naturally for many, however we don’t want to be a slave to habit it only inhibits development. It’s possible to break each part of the drill into isolation. Rep the turn, rep the turn and the draw, rep left to right, rep right to left etc. Once comfy, add it all together. Dont make the digits on the shot timer paramount. Good clean, repeatable and consistent ex*****on will reduce the time, without wasted reps. It’s a process. Enjoy it. Be a Pro!

LOW READY As with every element of our training we strive to understand the capabilities and limitations of what we do. The application of low ready, like most things has pro’s and con’s One initial benefit of the low ready, is having the stock already established in the shoulder. It allows for a swift presentation to the eye line. By manipulating the safety and trigger as we raise the weapon we can become seamless and efficient in our ex*****on. A general rule is that the muzzle is placed at a 45 degree, or at the feet of the target. The closer we are, the more severe the angle. Requiring a more dynamic movement. The further we are the shallower the angle. Both require physical real estate between you and the threat. A luxury you may not be afforded if operating in and around human or physical terrain. A further consideration is the bio-mechanical leverage needed if in close proximity to the enemy. It doesn’t take a great deal of strength to prohibit the presentation of the weapon if an adversary can get hands on the muzzle. A real world consideration that we at GBRS have experienced on operations overseas. Knowing the “why” behind what we do only serves to make us all more efficient members of our teams and communities.
