Today we had the privilege to assist Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, Florida in a special firefighter cultural competency training for educators from SPC. These educators will be working directly with firefighters to provide an applied mental health certificate with a concentration in the fire service and will help firefighters receive their bachelors degree.

Su***de prevention in the fire service requires taking a proactive approach that treats mental health with the same priority as physical safety. This includes normalizing conversations, training members to recognize early warning signs, and providing support before a crisis occurs. By combining proactive tactics with proven evidence-based practices, we can better protect the well being of those who serve.
