Chelmsford Police Department Participates in Cops for Kids with Cancer Check Disbursement for Local Family

Today, members of the Chelmsford Police Department proudly participated in a check disbursement on behalf of Cops for Kids with Cancer in support of the Bolger family of Chelmsford — Matt (father), Jenn (mother), Reese (3), Reagan (8), and Tyler (6), who is currently undergoing treatment for leukemia.

Board members in attendance included Deputy Chief Gary Hannagan of the Chelmsford Police Department and Deputy Chief Andrew Booth of the Carlisle Police Department, both representing Cops for Kids with Cancer.

Tyler, a student at Byam Elementary School, was diagnosed with leukemia (B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia) on January 10, 2026, and is currently receiving treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Boston Children’s Hospital. Today also marked Tyler’s first day back at school, an important milestone celebrated by family, friends, and members of the department.

During the family’s visit to the Chelmsford Police Department, Tyler enjoyed touring the station and especially loved meeting Ozzie, who quickly became the highlight of his visit.

“Seeing Tyler return to school today after everything he has endured is nothing short of remarkable,” said Deputy Chief Gary Hannagan. “The Bolger family has shown incredible strength throughout this journey, and we hope today’s support reminds them that this community stands firmly beside them every step of the way.”

Deputy Chief Andrew Booth added, “One of the most rewarding parts of being involved with Cops for Kids with Cancer is witnessing the compassion and generosity that communities show families in need. Tyler’s smile today said it all, and we are proud to provide support during such a challenging time.”

Cops for Kids with Cancer is a nonprofit organization that provides immediate financial assistance to families of children battling cancer throughout New England.
