“You get butterflies in your stomach before you launch and you have to be very focused,” says Matt. “When you do your pre-flight inspection, you can’t forget things. I only fly when I don’t have to think about much else.”

There is no autopilot, no margin for distraction, and no room for shortcuts. “Your brain is trying to keep you alive,” Matt explains. “You have to get a hold of the fear and conquer that.” Every pre-flight check matters. Every decision carries weight.
