Many mechanical devices designed by engineers have simple machines embedded within their structures, including escalators, construction cranes, and many forms of transportation! How could you apply simple machines in this scenario?
This highschool activity allows students to analyze astronomical images in order to calculate the interstellar distance to a star cluster located across the Milky Way from our own Solar System. Using Python code that runs in a Jupyter Notebook, students determine the brightness of stars!
