Infleqtion was proud to host students from Front Range Community College on April 11th. Charles Williams showcased how the can be used for education and job training in the field of atom-based quantum technology. Students also learned about the laser and optics technology that makes the device work.

During their visit, the students received an introduction to atom-based quantum technologies and how they are transforming various industries, including telecommunications, finance, logistics, defense & security, and scientific research. These advanced products enable the precise and sensitive management of data, leading to unprecedented levels of accuracy.

During the demonstration of the desqtopMOT, the students learned about the hardware and teaching curriculum designed to guide them through a step-by-step process of creating and controlling thermal atom clouds. They were also shown how to use Nobel Prize-winning laser techniques to create a magneto-optical trap (MOT) of Rubidium atoms.

The students were given the opportunity to conduct hands-on experiments that allowed them to measure the atom density and temperature of the MOT down to microkelvin levels.

The desqtopMOT's educational material extends beyond atom-based quantum technology and can be used to train students in , , and . Mastering the setup of experiments is crucial for aspiring quantum engineers and assembly technicians.

They enjoyed interacting with the Rb MOT by using a permanent magnet to manipulate the cloud of atoms and to make them “dance.”
