Happy 4th of July weekend.
I’d rather celebrate with more flowers and less fireworks.

Great tips!

June Gardening Tasks

Summer Pruning

Prune spring blooming shrubs such as azaleas, lilacs, and viburnum before they set buds for next year. Summer pruning is an effective time to control a shrub's size.

Focus on the 4 D's first: Dead, Damaged, Diseased, and Dysfunctional (branches growing inward or crossing). Avoid removing more than 1/3 of the shrub.

Create a Pollinator Bath

As the hotter and drier days of summer approach, support pollinators by creating a pollinator bath. A shallow dish or plant saucer filled with water and added pebbles or sticks can provide a landing spot for insects to drink without drowning. Hydration is key to their survival! Keep the dish in a quiet, part shade area of your garden near blooming flowers. Keep the water consistently filled, refresh the water every 2 to 3 days to prevent mosquitoes from breeding, and rinse the dish and pebbles weekly to prevent algae and bacteria growth.

Maintain Annual Planters and Baskets

If you have had your annual containers planted since April or May, now is a good time to give them some extra love. Dead heading, cutting back leggy growth, fertilizing, and replacing damaged or struggling plants will ensure your annual containers look great all season long!
