At home performing on a street corner in Mattapan Square, the Kennedy Center in DC and the Harvard Musical Association in Boston, the Boston Public Quartet was created to connect, inspire and innovate as an ensemble-in-residence in Boston’s diverse neighborhoods. The BPQ is dedicated to presenting historically excluded composers alongside the traditional canon of classical chamber music, and our vision is to normalize this practice.

Join us for our biggest event of the year! With guest artists, inspirational music, and surprises for our audiences, this is a concert you don’t want to miss.
The Boston Public Quartet (BPQ) will present their third annual A Radical Welcome concert with a set of three of quintets written by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Amy Beach, and Somerville-based composer Melika M. Fitzhugh, and featuring guest artists Steph Davis (marimba) and Eric Thomas (clarinet).

📍March 19th: BPQ at Shaw - Music She Wrote
A part of an educational mini series at Shaw-Roxbury Library, we’ll take a deep dive into music by woman composers. All ages welcome.
📍March 22nd: A Radical Welcome - An Afternoon of 3 Quintets
Join us for our 3rd annual A Radical Welcome at the Strand Theatre. Featuring 3 landmark quintets, this concert will also include special guest artists, and an interactive activity for our audience.
📍April 30th: BPQ at Shaw - Music for the Mind
The second part of our Shaw-Roxbury educational concerts mini series, we’ll be exploring the link between music and our mental health.
📍May 14th: BPQ at Shaw - Music for the Spirit
To conclude our Shaw-Roxbury mini series, we’ll be celebrating black composers. This event will feature and local Somerville composer Melika M Fitzhugh.
