Next Leadership Development Corporation
Next Leadership Development Corporation is a nonprofit focused on developing the next generation of Black leaders to take their posts in communities and organizations.
Wishing you a powerful start to the New Year from all of us at Next Leadership Development!
As we reflect on the past year, we’re grateful for the strength, vision, and leadership within our communities. Together, we’ve amplified Black voices, built resilience, and sparked real change from inspiring our young people in our afterschool program to providing food security and wellness checks for over 130 Black elders and families in Boston.
As we begin 2026, we’re excited to keep building a future where every Black community leads the way in resilience, innovation, and hope.
Thank you for being part of our journey. Here’s to rest, renewal, and collective action in the year ahead!

Shiloh is a historically Black community in South Asheville, continuously inhabited since the late 1880s. Originally settled by a small group of African American families, Shiloh has remained a stronghold of Black culture, resilience, and community-driven progress. Despite challenges like urban development and displacement, the neighborhood has preserved its identity and remains committed to advancing racial justice, public health, and economic empowerment.
The Shiloh Community Association is working to ensure that growth in the area reflects the needs and history of its residents. Their initiatives focus on preserving Black heritage, expanding educational and housing opportunities, and fostering cooperative relationships between residents, businesses, and city leadership.
As a member of the Black Resilience Network, Shiloh continues to build social capital and strengthen its capacity for lasting change.

Building climate resilience is more urgent than ever. Communities facing environmental and socioeconomic challenges now have an incredible opportunity to secure funding and resources to prepare for and respond to disasters.
The Climate Smart Communities Initiative (CSCI) is offering grants of $100,000 to help small and mid-sized communities strengthen their disaster preparedness, mitigation, and recovery efforts. These grants support risk assessments, community engagement, project planning, and more.
This initiative mirrors our work with the Black Resilience Network and programs addressing disaster justice. By partnering with local governments, tribal organizations, and climate professionals, communities can tackle challenges together and build a safer, more equitable future.

The Black Emergency Operations Center (BEOC), supported by Black Resilience Network members including All Healers Mental Health Alliance, Next Leadership Development, and the Bill Anderson Fund, is building a national infrastructure to support Black communities before, during, and after disaster.
From emergency preparedness and just-in-time training to mental health coordination and real-time resource matching, BEOC ensures Black municipalities aren’t left behind in climate response or recovery. By aligning with FEMA’s Emergency Operations Center model, this virtual hub works to close systemic gaps and bring forward the voices and needs of communities often overlooked.
