My mom has made hundreds of baskets over the years. But it wasn’t until last summer, when my son came home from art camp with a small basket he had made, that I began to consider the basket form as sculptural imagery. In a quick text exchange, I shared his basket with her, “Look, another basket maker,” and she responded with a photo of one she had just made. That moment felt like I was onto something.

In this sculpture, the woven reed is translated into metal, while using fence posts as both material and connective imagery. It reflects my ongoing interest about how to convey connection and community, especially within the context of our digital age.
