We are saddened to report the passing of Shirley Raines, a compassionate force whose life’s work centered dignity, care, and community for those most often overlooked.

Raines was the founder of Beauty 2 the Streetz, the Los Angeles–based nonprofit that brought hair and makeup services, meals, clothing, hygiene, and safety essentials to thousands of unhoused people in Skid Row.

Her impact was nationally recognized when she was named CNN Hero of the Year in 2021, and again in 2025 when she received the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Social Media Personality, honoring how she used digital platforms to amplify humanity and hope.

Our hearts are with her loved ones and the community she served.
