A unique alternative to a basket, a gentle vessel is a flexible container that is lovely to look at and to touch! They come in a variety of shapes and sizes. These “functional fiber” items are hand-crafted by me. Put one somewhere and I bet you find a use for it! Some uses for these soft and gentle containers are, a padded place to put cell phones, smart phones, music players, sunglasses, keys, et
c. Not only is it a cushioned spot for stuff it also protect furniture surfaces at the same time. Use these “soft” containers to keep small items, like jewelry, keys, or even wrapped candy. Some creative customers use their vessels when they travel. Lightweight and flexible in a suitcase, it becomes a convenient holder for your small personal items in the hotel room. The back story:
In 1998 my fine artwork was influenced by Haitian Vodou, especially their spiritual use of the libation bottle. In their culture this vessel represents an offering to the spirit gods, and can also be looked at as a source of power to the individual that possesses one. These discarded bottles wrapped in string, fiber, beads and sequins, fascinated me. After an evolution of experimentation with yarns, fibers and forms and imagery, functional bowls and vessels have emerged from these earlier fine art pieces. To stay on the spiritual side they can be used to hold crystals, milagros, or even small written affirmations.
