CHAF (Community Housing Assistance Fund) is a restricted emergency assistance fund of HomeStart that helps families cover move-in costs such as first month’s rent, security deposits, and moving fees.

It costs $30,000+ per year to house a family in shelter. CHAF moves families into stable housing for a fraction of that.

For clients transitioning out of homelessness, an empty apartment can feel overwhelming. These aren’t just household items. They’re necessities that often fall outside a tight budget.
