Caring For A Cure

Team Tuesday- meet Jacki Emond, RN.

Working alongside the creators of Caring for a Cure makes me want to be a better person and nurse. The organization that Molly, Laura, and Christine created and continue to grow is unlike anything else I have encountered in my 23 years of being a nurse. Helping to take care of people with cancer has been some of the most humbling, heartbreaking, and inspiring times of my life.

There are often times when caring for these people (and their families), when we as a care team look at each other and wonder, “what else can we do to help”? That’s when CFAC steps up. From its inception with a bunch of gift cards and earrings in a locker, CFAC has helped fill the void that oncology care teams feel. We are naturally empathic and want to help. We know we can’t make all their problems go away, but we can gift a pair of earrings after a woman shaves her head, a warm blanket and chap stick for a long admission, a wedding celebration, and Christmas presents for a patient’s kids all because of CFAC. Each time I have participated in a fundraiser or a gift giving moment, a piece of my heart heals. I have been grateful to utilize CFAC funds for the patients I have cared for over the years on Ellison 14, Lunder 10, Cooley Dickinson oncology clinic, and in my new role as a palliative care nurse.

Thank you Molly, Laura, and Christine for not only helping to heal our patients and their families through CFAC, but also healing the hearts of the caregivers.

Jacki, thank you for your kind words and for the compassion you bring to your patients and families every day. Thank you for being such an important part of our CFAC family throughout the years. 💙
