Ten years ago, the Bruce C. Bolling Building opened its doors in Boston’s Roxbury neighborhood, marking a new chapter for Nubian Square. The project brought together the City of Boston, Sasaki, and Mecanoo to design a new type of civic space—one that brought Boston Public Schools administration under one roof, merging dedicated community spaces and ground floor retail in the geographic heart of the city.

To celebrate this anniversary, Sasaki principal Victor Vizgaitis sat down with Boston’s Chief of Planning, Kairos Shen, to reflect on the project’s journey from early vision to reality and its lasting influence on the community today.
