Have you watched Secrets of the Penguins yet?? If not, I highly recommend it! If you’ve seen it, what did you think? Did you learn anything new? I did!! I hadn’t heard about the Galapagos penguins’ clever feeding technique, taking advantage of the feeding pelicans. Clever and wild! 🐧👍🏻

It's been a very busy day, so I'm late posting this - but today is PENGUIN AWARENESS DAY!!! To raise awareness about one penguin species in particular (a species that is extremely close to my heart), I'm sharing an important post from SANCCOB saves seabirds - the seabird rescue center that I worked so closely with during the Treasure oil spill rescue in 2000.
At the turn of the 21st century, there were approximately 3 million African penguins in the wild. At the time of the Treasure oil spill, their population had fallen to approximately 165,000-175,000 birds. Today - just 2 decades later - the African penguin is now critically endangered, with fewer than 10,000 pair left. If something isn't done to reverse this alarming trend, these charismatic seabirds could be extinct in the wild in just 10 years!
