Do something kind today as we mark the 13th anniversary of our city’s darkest day.

Thinking of my friend, Roseann Sdoia, who was seriously injured and remembering Martin Richard, Lingzi Lu, Krystle Campbell, MIT Police Officer Sean Collier and Boston Police Officer Dennis “DJ” Simmonds.

It’s been nine years since Firefighter Joe Toscano lost his life after rushing into fire at a home in East Watertown. I’ll never forget that tragic day. Joe was a father of five, loving husband, a great guy and friend who lived his life helping others.

Thank you Joe for your service and sacrifice and thank you to all of our first responders who show up every day to help our communities.

Joe’s oldest son, Patrick, is following in his dad’s footsteps as a Boston Firefighter. Joe is smiling down for sure!! ❤️❤️
