STUDIO PHILOSOPHY
Natural Modernism
The work of Flavin Architects is deeply rooted in the context in which our projects are sited; we call this approach to design Natural Modernism. The firm designs buildings that relate beautifully to their surroundings, with sculpted lines and timeless materials. With an aim to blur the distinction between inside and out, we use transparency and axial views
Thank you to all who attended our panel this Wednesday on the value of indoor-outdoor connection in urban design context, and to our panelists Jen Stephens, Peter White, Laura Gollinger, and Colin Flavin for sharing their experience and insight.

Cohen House. Our ongoing renovation of F. Frederick Bruck’s 1962 Bauhaus-inspired home features a solarium expansion adjacent to the dining area. The “Gropius Grey” color of the solarium walls, carried in from the exterior, is juxtaposed with the Arcilla Red of the credenza countertop and color-washed dining room walls.
To celebrate and stay true to the home’s original character, we developed Bruck’s existing vertical language, detailing, and color use while updating the house to best fit the clients’ needs.
Thank you to our collaborators on this project.
