One of the biggest traps in negotiation is arguing about what's "fair."

The challenge is that fairness isn't the same for everyone. What feels completely reasonable to one person may feel unfair to someone else.

When a conversation starts going in circles, try shifting the focus to something you both can look at together, like market data, industry practices, past agreements, or comparable examples.

Those shared reference points help move the discussion away from opinions and toward problem solving.

What have you found helps break an impasse?

We're excited to share some good news.

MWI has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the Massachusetts Bar Foundation's Interest on Lawyers' Trust Accounts (IOLTA) Grants Program, the largest grant we have received for our summary process and small claims court mediation program.

Through its IOLTA Grants Program, the Massachusetts Bar Foundation helps support organizations that expand access to justice across Massachusetts, and we are honored to be among this year's recipients.

As part of MWI's public-service initiatives, MWI serves 14 Massachusetts District and Municipal courts, and this funding will help us amplify those services while investing in the volunteer mediators whose compassion, skill, and generosity make this work possible.

Every day, MWI's mediators help people navigate some of life's most difficult moments. Their commitment to listening, problem-solving, and helping others find a path forward makes a difference for individuals, families, and communities throughout the Commonwealth.

We are deeply grateful to the Massachusetts Bar Foundation for this investment and to the court mediators who give so generously of their time and talents.

Thank you for helping make access to justice more accessible, one conversation at a time.

Strong communities do not happen automatically.

Whether in workplaces, schools, nonprofits, associations, or neighborhoods, healthy communities are built over time through communication, trust, participation, and a willingness to work through challenges together.

At MWI, we spend a lot of time helping people navigate difficult situations and conversations. One thing we’ve learned is that disagreement itself is not usually the problem. Strong communities are built when people stay engaged, keep communicating, and work through challenges together.

Community looks different everywhere, but connection still matters.

What helps you feel connected in the communities you are part of?
