Kernel the Great Dane

Huckleberry passed away this afternoon. The ER called this morning with the sickeningly awful news that my precious hog is completely covered in cancer and in multiple organ failure. They said I could take him home for a day or two, but Kernel, Kent, and I all ran over to give him the last thing we could which was dignity. He went from being barely conscious when they brought him to me, to instantly chirping and popping around in my hands and snuggling up into my chest. It was that last bit of s***k in him that made me feel like it was better to let him go while he was somewhat aloof to how bad this was. I got to rock him and he truly went peacefully. It was still absolutely devastating... I guess it’s never not. I will love you forever, Heckie. I never knew I could fall so deeply in love with such a small creature. I’ll honor you in ways throughout my life. I promise.
