A brilliant project with wonderful clients and some very talented people. Everyone involved giving 100% and at the top of their game. I can remember clearly, it was toward the end of a very large, very challenging but satisfying project. A project that called upon every skill I possessed as an artist. There was work in every room from floor ceiling. Gold leaf, wall and furniture finishes, faux this and that, and a few smaller paintings. It was head spinning! And after three years of us all contributing to create a period masterpiece the owners were looking for a large painting to finish off their dining room. After several trips to Paris to look for just the right piece and not quite finding it, they came to me and commissioned this painting. With direction from the amazing interior designer @johnberenson with whom we were on this 3 year journey. With their love for 18c French interiors, I was asked to create a painting that would not only fit stylistically but closely match the technical process of painters from that time. It just so happened I had been studying this process for several years leading up to 2007 when the painting was commissioned. @watkins_decorative . .
