This Fourth of July, as we celebrate the blessings of freedom, let us also remember our responsibility to protect it.
The Holocaust reminds us that liberty, justice, and human dignity must never be taken for granted. By teaching the lessons of the past, we help build a future where hatred has no home and freedom endures.

Today is the 85th anniversary of the infamous Iași pogrom. Romania was an official ally of N**i Germany during WWII. On June 28, 1941, the Romanian authorities staged a pogrom against the Jewish population in the town of Iași.
During the pogrom, hundreds of Jews were shot in the courtyard of the Iași police headquarters. Hundreds more were killed on the streets or in their homes. After the pogrom, thousands of Jews were arrested, packed into freight trains, and deported to towns southwest of Iași; many died en route.
