Mommy Goes To Work

🧑‍🚀 Meeting Cady, a real-life astronaut mom and fellow alum, was incredibly inspiring!

During her fireside chat—beautifully facilitated by Sabrina at Boston Globe Media’s —one moment stayed with me.

When asked, “What’s the scariest part about going to space?” she paused and said:
“before you leave, even though you’re going to see your family again, it’s that hug, that last hug.”

I thought daycare drop-off hugs were hard… but saying goodbye to her young kids for a 6-month work trip to another planet? A whole different level.

And yet, she shared—so unapologetically—that she loves her family deeply and loves doing science in space. When there was a chance to extend her mission, she was excited. She’s fully in her element.

The spark in her eyes was a powerful reminder: we hold multiple identities—and we’re allowed to honor all of them.
