BREAKING NEWS 🚨 Dr. Bibi has now spent 31 days in ICE detention!!
On Saturday, April 11, at 4:00 AM, Dr. Bibi was flying from Texas to California with her 5-year-old daughter, Milena, a U.S. citizen born in the United States, for a scheduled asylum follow-up appointment when they were both detained by Border Patrol. Dr. Bibi was later transferred to ICE custody while Milena was separated from her mother.
Dr. Bibi has been legally in the United States for years and is currently working legally as a PGY-1 Emergency Medicine resident physician in McAllen, Texas. She initially held Temporary Protected Status (TPS), later transitioned legally into the asylum process after TPS changes, and has maintained a valid work permit since 2010.
When Project IMG learned about the situation, we immediately mobilized efforts alongside organizations supporting families impacted by detention. We connected with the organization Each Step Home, which supports children affected by ICE detention, and together we were able to help coordinate and fund travel for Milena and her grandfather so they could safely reunite with family in California that same Saturday night.
Since then, Dr. Sebastian Arruarana and representatives from Project IMG have remained in daily communication with Bibi’s husband, her mother, and her family to provide as much support as possible during this difficult time.
Dr. Bibi has also been a volunteer and leader within Project IMG for more than three years. We have personally witnessed her dedication, kindness, and commitment to her patients, her family, and the communities she serves.
Over the past month, Project IMG has continued advocating nationally for her release through medical conferences, national physician meetings, and media outreach involving major national outlets.
Dr. Bibi has done nothing wrong. Her family needs her. Her patients need her. Her hospital needs her.
We remain hopeful for her release today.
We hope to see you home soon, Dr. Bibi.

“I’m Renrenz Payumo, an IMG & clinical laboratory scientist from the Philippines and an incoming PGY-1 Internal Medicine resident at Centinela Hospital Medical Center. 🇵🇭🇺🇸
I moved here to California more than a year ago, and it has truly been a big blessing to start my training close to where I already am. I am grateful that I do not have to move again, and even more thankful that my support system is here with me throughout this journey. 🤍”
I’m very excited and grateful to be taking over the Project IMG Instagram to share my USMLE journey and answer questions from fellow aspiring IMGs. Whether you’re just starting, feeling overwhelmed, or simply curious about the process, I’d be happy to help in any way I can”.✨

“USCE is not about luck. It’s about strategy.”
Most IMGs apply to a few places and give up after rejection. The ones who match are the ones who:
✔ apply broadly
✔ leverage connections
✔ contact the right people
✔ stay persistent.
USCE searching is a system, not a gamble
