Beautycounter is a disruptive beauty brand dedicated to radical transparency. Our mission is to get safe products into the hands of everyone. Decades of studies indicate that serious health issues (including but not limited to asthma, cancer, and infertility) are on the rise and are due in some part to our ongoing exposure to toxic chemicals - whether it is in the shower, on our commute, while we
eat lunch at a local restaurant, or when we clean our kitchens at home. There are more than 80,000 chemicals on the market today. Many don't have any safety data. This is particularly true of those used in the skin care and beauty industry. What's worse is that the Food and Drug Administration (the agency that regulates cosmetics in the United States) allows companies to use chemicals known to be extremely harmful in the products we put on our bodies and on our kids' bodies every single day, day after day, and to make their own judgments about safety. It is time for a change. The United States has not passed a major federal law to regulate the safety of ingredients used in personal care products since 1938. Over the past two decades, the Europeaen Union has banned more than 1,300 chemicals in the product formulas of personal care products and restricted the levels of over 250 more in such products. The United States has only partially banned 11 to date. Researchers have found more than 300 chemicals in the umbilical cord blood of newborn babies, rendering them pre-polluted even befre birth. Thousands of untested chemicals are in our everyday products, our homes, and inside of us. Simultaneously, the prevalence of many diseases continues to rise. We deserve better, and we are doing something about it. At Beautycounter, we are committed to a health and safety standard that goes well beyond what is required by U.S. law: We have banned the use of more than 1,800 questionable or harmful ingredients through our "Never List' - all while ensuring our products perform and that they are as indulgent as any other luxe shampoo, lipstick, or oil in the market. It is not easy work, but it is well worth it. This is about progress, not perfection. Because every little bit counts. I have struggled with bouts of acne my entire life and I finally have found something that keeps it in control. My skin has never looked or felt healthier since using these products. I have no doubt in my mind that the products I had been using were contributing to my acne issue rather than helping to solve it, so I decided to join forces with Beautycounter and be a part of the solution. Beautycounter is a B-Corp, which makes us very different from most companies. In the united States, a B-Corp (Benefit Corporation) is a type of for-profit corporate entity, authorized by 30 U.S. states and the District of Columbia that includes positive impact on society, workers, the community, and the environment, in addition to profit as its legally defined goals. Basically, a B-Corp is responsible for three bottom lines: People, Planet, and Profit. We need more educators to help raise awareness of the issues surrounding the beauty industry, and to continue to have an impact in Washington D.C. What if you could build a business and make a social impact at the same time? Take the job with Beautcounter. GET INVOLVED AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE: *as a customer, begin the switch to safer. *As a member, be rewarded for switching to safer products. *As a hostess, you can host a social or educational hour with some friends and qualify for free and half off safe products. *As a consultant, educate your network, share our safe products and mission and effect change.
