It’s imperative for First Responders, Emergency Services Members and Frontline Workers to prioritise time to rest and decompress.

Dedicated recovery time allows for mitigation of the impact of your roles.

Trauma exposure, cumulative stress, sleep deprivation, shift work and chronic nervous system activation is just another Tuesday for you…..but they can all take a significant toll.

Find a place, a practice or people who provide you that sense of calm.

Remember; Proactive, Preventative and Purposeful actions and choices help us have longevity in these careers.

Dedicated rest and decompression allows us to process emotions and events of recent shifts, help return our systems to homeostasis and re-engage with family and the ones you love.

Ensuring this balance helps safeguard your mental and emotional health, cognitive functions and immune system.

The risk of burnout, PTS and allostatic overload are increased due to the nature of our roles, so being proactive and protective of restorative time and practices, helps us not fall into the traps of maladaptive coping skills and behaviours.

In our First Responder family, beach time is provides much of this…..what’s yours….?

We’ve got a mash up happening today!

Not everyone’s opinion, experience or perspective is going to be relevant for you. But we live in a world where we can be overwhelmed with the information coming our way.

So it’s ok to take what you need and leave the rest.

This also plays into the notion of not accepting criticism from those you’d never go to for advice. It’s not always going to be relevant or useful for you.

Being able to be open to criticism or acknowledging where you might be wrong is important; no one’s ego should be so ridiculously fragile that they can’t accept where they may be at fault. But if the criticism being directed your way isn’t constructive, its only purpose is to hurt you or coming from someone whose opinion doesn’t matter….is it truly worth your time?

And lastly, we talk about self determination and the fact, as First Responders, we naturally spend a lot of time inside our own minds. Going back over calls, what worked, what didn’t, what could I have done better.

Even though we have autonomy in showing up to perform these roles, we can’t control what comes our way or what might haunt us in the aftermath. So ensuring we know how to handle the tough calls and resources and strategies to assist in the aftermath, can help keep our mind a nice place for ourselves.

Join me for “Holding Space with Erin Jane” from 2pm EST only on The Thin Line Rock Station and stay tuned for Rob Swan after me, from 4pm 🖤

I look forward to spending a couple of hours with you ☺️🔥
