The Matt Brown Foundation is a dedicated 501(c)(3) organization committed to helping individuals and families who have suffered or are recovering from spinal cord injuries.

On February 5, 2023, Ed Newell was on a group mountain bike ride when he went head first over the handlebars and suffered a spinal cord injury at the C3 and C4 level. Since his accident, Ed has been focused on building strength and mobility, and has now learned to dress and bathe himself, as well as drive.

Due to a lack of endurance, these activities take a lot of time and energy, often leaving him unable to push himself in his manual wheelchair up a standard ramp or into a vehicle. With insurance denying coverage of a power wheelchair, the foundation was happy to step in and cover the costs, as the chair has greatly improved Ed’s independence and ability with everyday tasks already!

Thank you to those who have continued to believe in our mission and helped make this a possibility for Ed!

Never Quit. Overcome. Forever Forward.

We are now just under 13 weeks away from the 130th Boston Marathon presented by Bank of America and it's time to meet the team!

Dan, Mason, Dan, Joey, Matt, and Matt & Lucas are getting ready to take on 26.2 miles and Boylston Street awaits!

We owe a huge thanks to Bank of America and the BAA for allowing us to be a part of the Official Charity Program once again this year!

If you are able, there is a link below that will send you to our team’s fundraising page. Looking forward to seeing everyone on Marathon Monday!

In May, Christian suffered a spinal cord injury at the T8 level after a helmeted ATV accident. After spending time at Spaulding, Christian returned home, eager to continue gaining independence in his everyday life.

To help him get there, the foundation was happy to play a role in transforming his bathroom to make it accessible. Christian has been able to access it for a few weeks now and had this to say about it:

"I absolutely love my new shower. It's better than I ever could've hoped for. I've been able to use the shower for a couple weeks now, and it has already made a meaningful difference in my independence. Having the accessible shower is helping me feel much more confident about being able to shower on my own, even when no one is home. The modifications have also made my daily routine much smoother and less physically demanding. What used to feel stressful or time-consuming is now far more manageable and that has made a big difference in my overall comfort and confidence."

Thank you to our incredible support system for making this a possibility for Christian!
