to be clear - the results of the paper are super interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing what they do next! but the discourse re: "AI is ruining the kids brains" is... lacking at best.

Did some digging after I filmed this, and there's an interesting added issue here that could be a whole other video:

If you don't want your website/webpage to be used as training data for AI tools like ChatGPT, you can block that from happening (not so much with small companies).

In doing so, you're also less likely to appear in AI-powered search (if your info is on some other website that does allow it to be used as training data, that's out of your hands).

Cool, so you can protect your writing from contributing to AI slop! Except, if everyone producing valuable/factual information is doing that.... what websites are left for ChatGPT to scrape and return in search? Likely websites that are selling something with little motivation to reliably inform the public.

It's not actually as black and white as that for a lot of reasons, but it's definitely another reason to be wary of any answers you get from AI search tools.

P.S. - Follow me here to keep learning about AI. And if you’d like more info about upcoming workshops, resources, or how to work with me, comment AIHELP and I’ll reach out!
