Eye health is essential to daily life, yet too many communities still face barriers to accessing vision care.
For many people, the challenge is not just finding an appointment. It is whether vision services exist within the healthcare systems and community resources available to them.
For Dr. Rebecca Chown, OD, FAAO, that gap became impossible to ignore.
After 23 years working in eye care, she saw firsthand that communities across Oregon were going without essential vision services. Eye health was often missing from community health conversations, and many federally qualified health centers still lacked access to vision care.
Her response? Bring care directly to communities.
Through Envision EyeCare for All, Dr. Chown built a community-centered model rooted in trust, partnerships, and advocacy. What started with portable equipment packed into her vehicle has grown into pop-up clinics across Oregon and a future state-of-the-art mobile eye clinic designed to expand access even further.
Her story is a reminder that mobile health does more than bring services closer. It helps identify gaps, build trust, and create new pathways for communities that traditional systems have not consistently reached.
In our latest blog, Dr. Chown shares how advocacy, community partnerships, and a commitment to the communities she serves shaped Envision Eye Careโs journey.
