Avimor Trails Update:

Winter trail closures come to an end as of today, Saturday, April 1. The winter leashing requirements for ALL open trails is extended, however, until Monday, May 1 to ensure wildlife safety and to protect nesting birds. Please respect this requirement as this period of time is critical for the survival of many species.

Also, please respect the trails and those who volunteer to maintain them by using discretion and turning back when you encounter wet, muddy conditions (as expected today).

Also be aware of the presence of sheep and their guard dogs. MTBers should dismount when approaching or passing through an area where they are present. Dogs not on leash could be mistaken for predators and dealt with by the guard dogs.

We expect to issue new trail maps in the near future that will clarify trail use and leashing requirements for the coming season. Construction closures indicated on the present and future maps should be honored. We will be reopening trails in these areas as various phases of construction are completed during the year.

Stay tuned. Please feel free to email me:

Avimor Trail News: Gate repairs / Request for Action

The gate near the trailhead for Burnt Car (Trail #10) in Phase 10 was reported open and unable to be properly closed. I was able to perform repairs this morning and it is now operating as designed.

The malfunction was likely caused by repeatedly allowing the gate to slam shut resulting in the bending of the gate stop plate which finally allowed the gate to force or wedge its way past the frame. The second picture illustrates the gate stop in its normal configuration after the repairs (which included bending the fairly substantial piece of metal back into shape). We are discussing possible improvements to the gate design including replacement with a cattle guard similar to what is located on the Access Road at the end of Phase 10.

It is requested that when using this or other gates, especially of this design, that care be exercised to not let the gate forcefully slam shut. Time and materials for gate repairs/replacement are not inexpensive and we all need to do our part to minimize maintenance expenses. Thanks.
