This Is a Dirty Indoor Coil

This buildup may not look dramatic, but it has a major impact on system performance.

Your indoor (evaporator) coil is responsible for absorbing heat from the air inside your home. For that heat transfer to happen efficiently, air must move freely across clean coil surfaces.

When dirt, dust, and debris coat the coil:

Airflow becomes restricted

Heat transfer is reduced

The system runs longer

Energy bills increase

Ice can form on the coil

The compressor experiences added strain

A dirty coil acts like a blanket over the metal fins. The system has to work harder to achieve the same result.

Over time, that extra workload shortens equipment life and increases the likelihood of breakdowns.

Most homeowners never see this part of the system. It’s hidden inside the air handler — out of sight, but not without consequences.

Routine maintenance includes inspecting and cleaning the coil when needed. Keeping it clean helps maintain efficiency, comfort, and system longevity.

If your system seems to run constantly or struggles to keep up, coil condition may be part of the problem.

Clean components = better performance.
