On this quiet shoreline of Iveron Monastery, the Panagia Portaitissa first revealed her presence to the monks of Mount Athos. Here, St. Gabriel the Iberian received the wonderworking icon after walking upon the sea in obedience to the Mother of God. For nearly a thousand years, pilgrims have come to this sacred place, seeking the prayers of the Gatekeeper who continues to welcome all who draw near to her Son.

Σε αυτή την ήσυχη ακτή της Ιεράς Μονής Ιβήρων, η Παναγία Πορταΐτισσα φανέρωσε για πρώτη φορά την παρουσία της στους μοναχούς του Αγίου Όρους. Εδώ, ο Άγιος Γαβριήλ ο Ίβηρας υποδέχθηκε τη θαυματουργή εικόνα, βαδίζοντας επάνω στη θάλασσα με υπακοή στην Υπεραγία Θεοτόκο. Εδώ και σχεδόν μία χιλιετία, προσκυνητές καταφθάνουν σε αυτόν τον ιερό τόπο, ζητώντας τις πρεσβείες της Πορταΐτισσας, η οποία εξακολουθεί να υποδέχεται κάθε ψυχή και να την οδηγεί προς τον Υιό της.

In 692 the Fathers issued 102 canons and completed the work of the Fifth and Sixth Ecumenical Councils. Canon 13 defends the married priesthood as the apostolic rule. The East received them whole. Rome withheld her signature. Two centuries before the Great Schism, the fault line was already visible.
