How about that? Baby Jesus, wearing a red coral amulet! These are Italian paintings that date from the medieval times all the way to the Renaissance ( 1300-1500) The fact that baby Jesus is depicted wearing amulets goes to show the importance of the Mediterranean red coral. 🪸 in the Italian tradition. The amulets were worn by Italian children to protect them against evil energy or evil eye 🧿 but isn’t it odd that the child regarded as God should need protection? The artist by doing this wants to convey the human side of Christ nature by showing him wearing what children in the 14 century have worn as infants. I will be documenting and teaching you more about the properties of red, coral, and how it has been used to create amulets for protection through the ages in the Italian tradition.
