Cutting through the “Florida is eliminating property taxes” hype—nothing has changed yet. This breaks down what the Save Our Homes amendment actually does, where it stands (headed to the Nov 2026 ballot, needs 60% approval), and the key numbers: the non-school homestead exemption could rise to $150K in 2027 and $250K in 2028, while school taxes stay. Biggest deadline to know: Dec 31, 2026 residency for full benefit. The open question: how local services get funded if governments lose $4.6B+. What’s your biggest concern (or hope) about the funding side?

Memorial Day is not a celebration. It is a day of mourning.

Today honors the U.S. service members who died while serving in the armed forces, not those who served and returned home, and not those currently serving. Those days exist, and they are distinct:

▪ Memorial Day (last Monday of May) - honors the fallen
▪ Veterans Day (November 11) - honors all who served
▪ Armed Forces Day (third Saturday of May) - honors those currently serving

Memorial Day traces back to the years following the Civil War, when it was known as Decoration Day. Communities would gather to place flowers and flags on the graves of soldiers killed in battle. Congress declared it a federal holiday in 1971.

In 2000, Congress passed the National Moment of Remembrance Act, asking every American to pause for one minute at 3:00 PM local time, a small act of unified silence for the more than one million Americans who have died in U.S. military service since the founding of the country.

Wherever you are today, at a barbecue, on the road, with family.... please take that minute.

That's what the day is for.
