As a new engineer with Procter & Gamble, I was handed a small binder and a stack of forms and told “Pick your benefits”. I had no idea how to decide which health plan to choose, if supplemental disability was worth it, or if I should put money into a flexible spending account. At the time there was no 401(k) plan so at least I didn’t need to make any investment decisions. Every time I asked the HR department for some direction, the answer I got was “We’re not allowed to give you advice. We can’t influence your selections”. Being a typical engineer, I decided I’d better do some research. What I found was a real passion for personal finance. Over the next few years, I read every book I could find on the subject. I shared my enthusiasm with other employees and was eventually was asked to manage finances for people. In 1991, I start a Fee-only financial advisory firm as an alternative to the commission based money managers who dominated the Cincinnati area. For the past 25 years, I've been helping people like you navigate your financial journey from employment thru retirement. Helping pick your company benefits, saving for you children’s college, buying houses and structuring retirement distributions.
