Many contests ensue followed by the archery contest to shoot a bird tethered to the mast of a ship. First comes, Hippocoon who hits the mast, shakes the bird and everyone can see it is alive. Next, Mnestheus shoots, missing the bird and cutting the cord freeing the bird from the mast. Eurytion is up next and he shoots the escaping bird. Last up is King Acestes who has nothing left to shoot so he decides to demonstrate his strength. King Acestes aims high into air, his arrow catches fire midflight and it turns into a shooting star. Hence, comes the Arrow Study Club motto, “Aiming high for the care of our patients.”
