Something has been getting into my feed building at night. Eating all the cat food in the dishes, rumaging through the trash and dumping over the cat's water.

I think I found the culprites tonight!

Coconut's vet visit today:

Yesterday, Coconut dropped to roll. When she tried to get up, the leg she has not had full use of for the past week, slipped under her. She managed to get up, but has lost the mobility in that leg, that she had started to get back, with the steroids. I called the vet, and was instructed to give Coconut 2 scoops of Bute, and she would see her today.

Dr. Conover, of Nebraska Equine Veterinary Clinic came to see Coconut this afternoon. She re-examined her and did some lameness testing. The conclusion was that Coconut did not injure her left hind leg. Both her foster mom and myself was concerned that she had either broken, fractured it, or torn a tendon. Dr. Conover said her lameness was neurological, and most likely caused by arthritis in her spine, that was pinching a nerve, or a tumor that was pinching a nerve. Coconut did not appear to know where her back end was, as the signals coming from her brain to her hind end, were being interrupted, by the nerves not getting the messages.

Doc is putting her back on the steroids for a few more days, then will be backing her off of them again. This will take down the swelling around her spine and hopefully help Coconut regain use of her leg again. Once she is weined back off the steroids, then we will see if she is able to continue go use her leg. Right now, she has to stay in the dry lot where it is flat and her food and water is close to her, so their is less risk of her falling. She also is on hold for any hoof trimming, as she is not able to balance herself.

I gave her foster mom an outside camera to hang on her shelter. That way she can keep an eye on Coconut, without having to be right there all the time. The next week should tell us if she is going to get better from this, and if so, her quality of life going forward.

Will post updates on Coconut's progress. Keep praying!

Coconut - leg trauma update:

It has been a week and 2 days, since Coconut's initial leg incident. She has been on anti-inflammatories and pain meds daily. Coconut started to use her leg more over this past week and was making progress toward recovery until today. Her foster mom reported that she must have laid down or tried to roll (as she had dirt on her back and side), and her leg slipped out from under her, when she tried to get back up. Now she is not bearing weight on that same leg again. 🤦‍♀️

I will be calling Nebraska Equine Veterinary Clinic in the morning, to have her rechecked and possible xrays or ultra sound.

Please keep praying for this old gal!
