Part 2- Today was the Food is Medicine , Diabetes Awareness and Education event , made possible by a grant from the SGRC - Area Agency on Aging.

Here’s some stats for you so you understand how vital it is to get healthy food in the hands of our seniors.

45.8% of our participants today were 80 and older!

62.5% had diabetes, the rest were pre-diabetic.

Only 8.3% wear a Continuous Glucose Monitor- citing cost above all else.

Only 33% know their A1C number.
Out of those participants the levels span from 6.5 - 11.

Only 37.5% eat enough vegetables- once again citing cost.

If food truly is medicine and our seniors aren’t getting the right medicine, we need to figure out how to help them. This may be such a small thing, but at least it’s a start.
