Founded in 1941, Southern Research is an independent, nonprofit, scientific research organization supporting the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, defense, aerospace, environmental, and energy industries. We pursue entrepreneurial and collaborative initiatives to develop and maintain a pipeline of intellectual property and innovative technologies that positively impact real-world problems.

If you're connected to a middle or high school student in the Birmingham area, this one's worth sharing.
Southern Research's STEM program offers hands-on science experiences for K-12 students across Alabama, and summer camp spots are filling fast. From "Break into Biotech" for middle schoolers to "Biotech Academy" and "BioScholars Institute" for high schoolers, students work in real labs, explore biomedical science, and get a genuine look at what a career in STEM can look like.
All programs are held at Southern Research's STEM Outreach Center, located inside our newly built research facility in Birmingham. Scholarships are available.
