☀️ Enjoy the next few days, Alabama — summer is coming fast.

A weak front slides through today with nothing but a wind shift and a gentle northwest breeze. No rain, no clouds, no drama — just a breezy, warm afternoon in the lower 80s.

Thursday morning will be our coolest of the stretch — upper 40s to lower 50s — with a beautiful sunny afternoon in the upper 70s. Enjoy it. That kind of weather won't be back for a while.

Friday morning delivers one last taste of spring — lows in the 40s and 50s — before sunshine pushes us back into the 80s by afternoon. After that, the pattern flips.

🌡️ The 7-day breakdown:

Wednesday: 82° — Breezy & warm, WNW breeze 10-15 mph
Thursday: 77° — Chilly morning (upper 40s/low 50s), sunny afternoon
Friday: 83° — Mostly sunny & warm, chilly start
Saturday: 88° — Heating up, still dry
Sunday: 89° — Hot & more humid
Monday: 90° — Hot & humid
Tuesday: 91° — Hot, isolated storms possible
A large area of high pressure will anchor itself off the East Coast early next week, putting Alabama squarely on the humid side — pumping Gulf moisture northward and keeping the heat locked in.

🌧️ The drought picture isn't improving. Birmingham is already running about 1.44 inches below normal for May and 3 inches below normal for the year. If we stay dry through the middle of next week — which looks likely — the monthly deficit grows to roughly 2.7 inches and the yearly deficit climbs to about 4.3 inches. That's close to an entire month's worth of rainfall already missing from our water budget heading into summer.

There is some hope on the medium-range maps for rain toward the middle and end of next week — but the best chance may end up west of Alabama. Better odds? Maybe. Clear drought relief? Not quite yet.
